Gita

NOTE : This Book is a CRITICAL Edition.

As the name indicates, this work lets you personally see on your own what Lord Krishna said and what the Great Vyasa wrote in Sanskrit, by understanding their OWN pure Sanskrit words themselves, without kaliyug translators' any influences on them.

The present work, which has received many commendable credentials, admirations and citations, is prepared with the objective of providing a complete reference book for the readers who are interested in understanding the original Gita as She is, in Vyasa's words. Even a layman in Sanskrit can also study both Gita and Sanskrit with the help of this book. I have endeavoured to make this work as self-sufficient, self-explanatory and self-evident as possible, so that the reader may not need to go outside this book for any reference.

With the above framework in mind, first I have given the historical background and short sketches of all character that appear in the Gita. With it, I have given a unique family tree of all these important people to show their interrelation, based mainly on the information available in the Mahabharata. After this, for a starter, I have introduced the Sanskrit alphabet and the rules of compounding the words (sandhi) used in the Gita. Then I have shown the analysis of how these rules apply to each of the compound words in the entire Gita.

Following this, I have clarified the basics of how the cases, tense and moods work in Sanskrit. Having explained all these basics, the readers are systematically brought to the most important part of -seeing for themselves the exact nature of each word of the Gita- so that they can precisely discern what is a proper translation from an improper interpretation of each word. This is done by showing a complete analysis of each compound and component word of the Gita with respect to its gender, number, person, case, tense, mood and root, so that the readers can see for himself-herself how each word has originated from its root and developed into the given form.

Using this knowledge, each verse of the Gita is broken down into her component words and then, for ease of understanding, these words are rearranged in the flow of English language. The grammatical meaning of each word and the composite meaning of each verse are then given. Based on my own success in teaching the Gita and Sanskrit (to the Gita lovers who do not know Sanskrit well enough, but have curiosity and patience), I can say for sure that this work is a good guide to learn the original Gita, in Vyasa's own words. This work is in two volumes, encompassing a complete study of the Gita, as She is, in Vyasa's own words.

In the preface of this book it has already been admitted that nice translations and commentaries on the Gita have been rendered by many great authors. Nevertheless, for the reasons given below, it has been deemed appropriate in this volume to practically show the grammar and grammatically ascertained meaning of each word of the Gita, for the clearer understanding and benefit of the readers, so that they can see by themselves the Gita as She is, in Vyasa's own Sanskrit words.

On careful scrutiny we can see that in the most of the available translations of the Gita, while authors are keen on the ornamental language, dogmatic point of view, religious glorification, philosophical weightiness, fantastic concepts, etc., they partially ignore the grammatical accuracy with respect to tense, case, number, gender, etc. For this reason, even though they are the translations of the same Sanskrit text, they mant times differ from each other and, thus from the original text also. And, unfortunately, the reader not versed in Sanskrit, has no way of knowing how far heöshe is from what Vyasa actually wrote!

Many times, in order to attain an erudition, the flowery language is so heavily ornamented that the reader can not tell what is fantastic and what is real. Often, in order to attain a certain idea, extraneous words are inserted in the translation; and sometimes the original divine words of Vyasa are completely deleted in the translation; while many times there is no correlation between the grammar of the word and the translation of it; other times Vyasas words are even altered to suite a personal point of view. Such diverse variations in the translations, even when done with best of the intensions or even inadvertently, prevent the readers from knowing where and how much is forthright as compared to the original Sanskrit text.

It is, of course, different case with the poetic renderings, where the poet has limited syllables, metre, words, letters, etc, to work with. Similarly too, a critic has to develop his own axiom and annotation. But translators do not necessarily have to deviate from the original text other than to a small degree.

Therefore, even when there are fine translations of the Gita available easily, a presentation of word for word meaning - supported with its full grammar - became an unavoidable duty for this work.

As the background, character sketches, grammatical explanations and footnotes are intergal part of this book :
(i) it has become unnecessary to repeat the explanatory details during the course of simple translation;
(ii) flowery or ornamental embellishment became unnecessary, because the word meanings are tied to their grammar;
(iii) religious or orthodox glorification finds no scope;
(iv) Vyasa's words from original text could not be removed;
(v) neither they could be altered;
(vi) nor the outside words, (other than connecting particles, prepositions and understood words) could safely be inserted. It is only for this reason this two volume work is called Gita as She is, in Krishna s Own Words.

After acquiring benefi from this basic study, the reader will THEN be able to better understand the commentaries and essays written by such great authors as Shri B.G. Tiiliak, Dr. Radhakrisinian, Swami Vivekanana, Swami Prabhupada, Swami C}inmayananda, Swami Chidbhavananda, Shri Arvind Ghosa, Bhagawan Rajnisa, ...etc.

     ORDER NOW

CONTACT US

CREDENTIALS
They said it

<TR Height 8%>

TEACHING, REfaSEARCH, PUBLICATION and DISTRIBUTION

</TABLE
_________________________________________________________________________________________
  © All rights reserved by books-india.com.
